PUTTLE

ACCESSIBILITY

Accessible mini golf

PUTTLE is a free 3D mini golf puzzle you can play with a keyboard as well as a mouse or a finger. It respects reduced-motion settings, shows a visible focus ring, and marks the scorecard by shape as well as color. The course is still a visual 3D scene. Play at https://puttle.golf. No account, no chat.

Keyboard putting

Touch and mouse still work — drag back anywhere and release. This map is for a keyboard in play.

  1. Press ← or → (or A / D) to aim. Hold Shift for fine aim.
  2. Press ↑ or ↓ (or W / S) to set power.
  3. Press Space or Enter to putt.
  4. Press U after a putt stops to take it back — one mulligan a round.
  5. Press M to see the whole hole from above, and Q or E to turn the camera.
  6. Press P for photo mode; Space or Enter snaps the photo and Escape leaves it.
  7. Press Space or Enter to skip a hole's opening flyover.
  8. Press Escape to open the menu, or to close the Locker, World Tour, leaderboard, or welcome panels.

The full slingshot lesson lives on How to play. This page is the keyboard and motion map.

Reduced motion

If your system sets prefers-reduced-motion: reduce, PUTTLE turns off camera shake, shortens camera flyovers and drops their swooping arcs, caps each hole's opening flyover at about a second, and stops the camera chasing a rolling ball. CSS animations — stamps, tickets, the coach — run at about zero duration. Physics and par do not change.

Graphics and sound

The menu has Sound and Music switches and a Graphics setting (Low, Medium, High). PUTTLE also lowers its own resolution when frames run slow. Sound effects, music, and ambience are all synthesized in the browser.

Screen readers and focus

Menus, the World Tour, the Locker, stats, and the leaderboard are ordinary HTML buttons and lists, reachable with Tab and marked with a blue :focus-visible ring. The between-holes scorecard ticket is a polite live region, so a screen reader can read each hole's result — "Hole 2, birdie" and the running total — as it is written. The stats chart has a text label listing your rounds by score. The 3D course itself has only a short label; strokes, rails, and toys are not announced.

Scorecard shapes

Scores use golf notation, so color is never the only channel: ○ birdie, ◎ eagle or better, □ bogey, ▣ double bogey or worse, and a gold ★ for a hole in one. Par has no mark.

Honest limits

PUTTLE is a 3D scene you still have to see: the island edges, the toys, and the cup are drawn with WebGL, and several obstacles are about timing. There is no chat and no account. The original PUTTLE Classic is a simpler 2D alternative with its own keyboard map and a screen-reader live region for strokes, and it shares your streak. Family sessions: kids and families. Stroke math is unchanged: PUTTLE scoring.
